Description

This course covers general shop safety as well as procedures for each group of machine tools. Topics include clothing, eye protection, lifting, first aid, and CPR. Also covered are the operation and setup of turning machines, drill presses, sawing machinery, and shop presses along with an introduction to turning machines. Topics include tooling, machine operation, the different types of lathes, including nomenclature, and set-up theories. Other topics include the use of hand tools, the use of measuring instruments such as steel rules, vernier scales, micrometers, and dial indicators. Dimensional measurements will encompass comparison measuring tools, gage blocks, and angular measuring tools. Precision layout techniques, drill bit sharpening, and tapping are also covered.
